Ministry of Health in Partnership with Roperfree geared to fight Malaria & COVID-19 in Pilgrims During Uganda Martyrs’ Day Celebrations

By Roperfree

Uganda Martyrs Day Celebrations are on high gear after the country spent 2 years in lockdown due to COVID-19 which caused Uganda to save more lives than many other countries around the world, this was attributed to the readiness of Uganda Healthcare System which knew its weakness but with dedicated medical workers many lives were saved. Uganda observed what happened in Asian and the Western Countries especially, Europe and USA and played a card “of prevention is better than cure” plus encouraging people to eat organic herbal foods and drinks as COVID-19 had no known medicine plus lockdown which took long than many other countries until the masses started to get immunized and it was eased up until later on when the economy was fully opened up.

Uganda had experience because it has been battling many tough diseases such as; malaria, cholera etc & stopped the importation of Ebola from neighboring country so with COVID -19, Uganda had a very good game plan and it won! The exemplary work to save Ugandans from the angel of deaths! The Ministry of Health did a tremendous job by tracking, surveilling, free PCR testing and treatment to suspected cases plus sensitizing the masses via different social and main stream media platforms and daily updates on social media platforms such as; on Twitter and instagram about the status of COVID-19 in the country. Martyrs’ Day is a public holiday that’s observed in Uganda on the 3rd of June each year. Many people make pilgrimage to Namugongo to commemorate the 45 martyrs who were killed on orders of the King of Buganda - Kabaka Mwanga 11 between 1885and 1887.

The Ministry of Health under the National Malaria Control Program in collaboration with Roperfree is geared to make the pilgrims safe against mosquito bites and falling sick of malaria by providing subsidized mosquito repellents, hand sanitisers and free resourceful information during the Uganda Martyrs’ Day events in the campaign to fight malaria & COVID-19 in this rainy season and Roperfree is so grateful for this partnership with the Ministry of Health especially, Dr. Jimmy Opigo and his team, namely; Dr. Daniel Kyabayinze, Emmanuel Ainebyoona PR, Maria, Mariam, Rukia and many more great medical personnel officers who I had opportunity to interact with for a brief moment on Uganda Martyrs’ Day-Ministry of Health – Malaria “WhatsApp Group”.
