Black Lives Matter Two Heroes from Pearl of Africa “Wakanda” to USA

By Roperfree

Roperfree was honored to feature on Salt TV News Live at 11 pm Uganda time on June 10, 2020 with Mr. Sentongo Lugonvu the news anchor and the discussions were based on how COVID-19 which has affected the low income earners & mainly the most vulnerable groups in Uganda compared to Canada where the government set up a fund to assist all those affected due to COVID-19 under the Canada Emergency Response Benefit which gives to every person monthly response fund who falls in the category.

Major General Kasirye Gwanga a soldier/patriotic of our life time

Watching Salt television couples of days which have been giving us live updates while digging up information from the communities  in Uganda to find out people’s welfare but the most devastating pictures we saw recently from a certain family eating cooked banana peels! And someone could wonder what is happening in our mother land, despite the government efforts in giving out free food to the most vulnerable!
Kasirye Gwanga in the middle 1972

Roperfree cannot miss to remember the two heroes’ one is George Flyod who was murdered by police officers in USA and whose death has sparked a global reckoning protest over police brutality and racial prejudice.

More than 500 mourners wearing masks against COVID-19  packed a Houston church a little more than two weeks after Floyd was pinned to the pavement by a white policeman in Minneapolis  who put a knew on his neck for almost 9 minutes and his death sparked demonstrations throughout the world due to the injustices channeled to people of African descent. The 46 year old Floyd a man who in life was little known beyond the housing project where he was raised in Houston’s Third Ward- into a worldwide symbol of justice.

Another Roperfree hero is the Major General Kasirye Gwanga who died on heroes’ day in Uganda on June 9, 2020. Born in 1952, went to Katakala Primary School and Kiburi Secondary School for his “O” level, he joined the Uganda Army in 1972 under Amin and when Amin was overthrown he was arrested  and taken as a prisoner of war and was released in 1981 after the government of Godfrey Lukongwa Binaisa negotiated the return of prisoners of war.

Kasirye Gwanga joined the Uganda Freedom Army led by Dr. Lutankome Kayiira up to 1985 when he joined the National Resistance Army rebels led by President Museveni, his specialization was in the artillery and commanded 120 mm unit as they attacked Kampala in January 1986. He served as the director of stores in the UPDF. In the political wing, Kasirye Gwanga served as the governor of Mubende district between 2001 and 2005.
