Uganda is transforming itself to become an industrial country following suit what India and China did in the early 80’s when they encouraged the cottage industries in their homestead to boost the economy, right now the two countries have achieved much in revolutionizing economic growth and together hold nearly one-third of the humanity and continue increasingly influential players in the globe while members of the BRIC giants including Russian & Brazil.

Roperfree will be privileged to showcase their health organic products that are Roperfree Mosquito Repellent and Aromatherapy which have been transforming many lives in Uganda and across the globe. Roperfree came to solve the problem of malaria by providing its simple solution of the essential oil mosquito repellent to fight malaria as before they had not been any viable versatile solution apart from the mosquito nets which had lots of limitations to work effectively to the end user.

Ugandans are ready to transform their country because they are sick and tired of poverty while the country is blessed with beauty by nature, good climate and rich in mineral resources plus human capital. That is why the Ministry of Trade and Industry and various big ticket item companies are sponsoring the exhibition.

Buy Uganda Build Uganda (BUBU) is an initiative of the Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Co-operatives to promote the consumption/usage of locally originating products (goods and services). The policy was approved by Cabinet in 2014. It has three objectives namely:

The main purpose of” BABU”
Ø To promote consumption of local goods and services. The current consumption/usage of local products like coffee, cotton, tea, cocoa, vanilla, leather and leather products, dairy products is below 10%. The major reason to this miserable consumption percentage is the negative perception that Ugandans have towards our local products. To address this, the Government is undertaking the media campaigns with specific messages towards a given target group. Positive media involvement is a basis to the realization of the objective.

Ø To promote the use and conformity to standards to guarantee quality goods and services. The current proportions of products that conform to standards as many of the local products are not well labeled and packaged, and therefore not attractive to consumers except Roperfree Brand Products and the few leading to the consumption/usage of imported products. It has also been observed that some of the service suppliers are not sufficiently competent to meet all contractors' requirements. This has resulted into preference of foreign workers to the locals hence depriving locals of opportunities to be employed and earn income.

Ø To provide capacity building programs to local suppliers of goods and services. 90% of Uganda's private sector is Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). These are characterized by informality, low technology, low production, low skill level, poor, packaging, inability to access finance, non-registration lack of access to Government procurement information among others.
