By Roperfree
At the beginning of November, 2020, Torontonians experienced drizzle of snowflakes with low temperatures below zero degrees which favor the flu transmission causing the surge in COVID-19 cases and to curb the high transmission in some European countries such; as German, France, UK, Ireland, Spain and Czech Republic, imposed local lockdowns to squash the second wave of the corononavirus pandemic and this is the most global crisis of our times.
Together, pandemics and epidemics have led to advances in public health that allowed cities and civilizations to grow and prosper causing improved urban sanitation, vaccination, better hygiene, more sensitization campaigns in the fight against COVID-19, malaria etc and modern medicine & healthcare.
On the other hand, the pandemics and epidemics have destroyed the global economy while causing a lot of travel restrictions as currently you cannot board a plane without valid 72 hours COVID-19 certificate and once you reach your destination you have to do self quarantine for 2 weeks in case you picked up something during the flight.
COVID-19 has sparked Bike Share in Toronto to become popular as many people work from home while using the opportunity to do bike share to ride around in form of doing exercises as they cannot access the gyms due to restriction closures and even if they are open, the high chances of people shying away crowded places plus using public instruments as they wouldn’t know whether the machines are sanitized enough to curb the transmission of the virus.
So biking has become a fast way to get around the city, great exercise to reduce stress and improve someone’s health.
On the hand, biking is good for environment and to go green, saves on gasoline, preventing carbon emission and keeping pollutants out of the air.
Biking is good for commuting for work or using for leisure and dealing in bicycle business is a booming worldwide and anyone reading this blog if you want to tap wealth, bicycle business in number one apart from other online businesses
Countries with high speed and well connected Internet with low outage of electricity will attract holiday vacation working guests/tourists such as; Bahamas and Jamaica have become high destination with this type of tourists. Uganda would have competitive advantage but maybe since the Umeme (Uganda Electricity Distributors) contract has not been renewed by the executive power and the power outage has become the order of the day while the government has not addressed this kind inconvenience which could drive investors out of the country and discourage the local investors & manufacturers.
For the Ugandan government to ferry well in this COVID-19 pandemic would have to put on emphasis on good affordable of essential supply of utilities such as; water, electricity and Internet, absence of these the country will lose the grip of fighting against COVID-19 and other deadly disease like malaria.
