A Malaria Vaccine That Took More Than 30 Years Starts In 3 Africans Countries

Malaria vaccine which took 30 years to be developed has come on board! With whopping cost of $1 billion dollars invested will now available in three countries: Malawi, Ghana and Kenya, as part of children’s routine immunization schedule.



There has been an estimate of 219 million malaria cases and 435, 000 deaths across 87 countries, with more than 90% of these in the Sub-Saharan Africa.

The vaccine known as RTSS that was developed by  Glaxo Smith Klein with non- profit organization PATH over a period of 30 years with support of Bill and Melinda Gate Foundation and network of African researchers, is the first world vaccine showing promise in protection against malaria in young children.
