Roperfree participate on the World Malaria Day Scientific Colloquium April 17, 2019 organized by the Ministry of Health under National Malaria Control Division with the theme of ' It is a household war chase malaria to zero the scientific touch" with guest of honor Dr. Diana Atwiine the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health which is being held by the time of creating this post at Hotel Country Kabira Club.

Dr. Jimmy Opigo & Colleague

Among the topics discussed as follows:

Governance Integrated Vector Management Presentation:
LLNN (Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets) evaluation in Uganda project impact of long last insect nets with and without piperonyl butoxide on malaria indicators in Uganda a cluster randomized trial Over the past decade, impressive reductions in malaria cases and deaths have been documented worldwide, following substantial investment in malaria control, nearly 70% of these were attributed to use of long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs)

      During the Scientific WMDS Colloquium 2019

However, malaria control achievements have not been uniform, and recent evidence suggests that the global decline in malaria burden may have stalled in Uganda, expanded coverage of malaria control interventions has been associated with reduced malaria incidence and prevalence but malaria control gains have been fragile in high transmission areas and the burden of malaria in Uganda remains high

Relevance of electronic data management to the 2017/2018 mass LLLN distribution campaign in Uganda

However, according research done by Roperfree during malaria sensitization campaigns, The distribution of long lasting Insecticidal nets has been very good preventative measures against malaria because of reduced mortality & morbidity but much more is needed to sensitize the target groups as in some areas mosquito nets have been misused for domestic farming, making ropes to tie on their domestic animals, so the  missing gaps should be closed by proving Roperfree mosquito repellent oils so by implementing the new proposed preventative measure should be able to reduced malaria to zero.

Officials from Plascon  which launched the world's first anti-mosquito paint early this year in 2019 with the goal of supporting Uganda's efforts of being malaria-free by 2021 the introduction of  the new mosquito repellent paint is good but the scenario is?  Would the house dwellers be able to embrace the new trend paint? Some house dwellers cannot afford to paint their houses especially in the remote areas; still non-plastered or muddy houses which could cause a big challenge

                              Mona, Roperfree; Co-founder & Operation's Manager

Many malaria professionals and expats made presentation on different topics in regards to malaria elimination to zero such as;

Dr Myers Lugemwa; Head of Malaria Control Program at the Health Ministry

Dr Jimmy Opigo;  Program Manager Malaria Control Program plus many more malaria professional officials to find strategies to eradicate malaria in Uganda to zero rate.

The media were present from couple of television stations and Mona the co-founder & Operation’s Manager of Roperfree was asked whether it would be easy to completely wipe out malaria  and she responded  that “it will be a big challenge because many people need to know more about malaria and the symptoms, further, she elaborated that malaria goes hand in hand with hygiene, if people are still leaving empty tins, cans, old tires, not clearing bushes around their homestead and blocking the drainage by dumping rubbish which create stagnant water and breeding grounds for mosquitoes which cause malaria. The emphasis of malaria education and sensitization in the community is paramount to find everlasting solution to fight malaria in the country.
