African-American History Month Inspired To Fight Malaria in Uganda

Published by Roperfree Black History Month is celebrated annually in the United States and Canada in February, as well as in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Republic of Ireland in October. It began as a way for remembering important people and events in the history of the African diaspora. Originally created in 1926 as Negro History Week by Carter G. Woodson who chose the second week of February for his celebration because it marks the birthdays of two men who greatly influenced the black American population: Frederick Douglass (Feb. 14) and Abraham Lincoln (Feb. 12) , the week turned into a month-long national observance in the U.S. in 1976.
